Preparing for the Covid19 Vaccine

Updated: Dec 5, 2023

The Moderna and Pfizer mRNA vaccines are 95% effective and very safe overall. Wonder Medicine recommends that everyone receive one of these vaccines.

But these vaccines have dark side as well. Many people are getting fairly ill from the robust immune reactions these novel vaccines cause.

Both doses of the Moderna vaccine gave me higher than normal arm pain. However, after the second dose, I did get mildly sick with chills, fatigue, and bad night sweats the following evening. The next day, everything felt back to normal. Unfortunately, this has been a common theme, and is more common in younger individuals.

So, I wanted to give some vaccine recommendations to get everybody prepared.

1. Rub your arm immediately after the shot to help the vaccine diffuse over a larger area of muscle to minimize point pain.

2. Take the next day off of work after getting the vaccine. Or, at least be prepared to potentially have to call in sick.

3. Take Tylenol 1000 mg, before or immediately after the immunization. Continue taking Tylenol every 6-8 hours for the next day. If you are symptom free at 12-24 hours after your injection, you may stop.

4. If your kidneys are ok and you do not have bleeding problems, ibuprofen or naproxen, can be used instead of, or in addition to Tylenol.

5. Ice or heat can be applied to your arm if it is tender.

Again, we recommend everyone get vaccinated. But be prepared for some potential downtime.

Thanks again,

Bill Brandenburg, MD
